Henceforth, the faces of Nollywood actors and actresses on screen would not be Lagos-based stars alone. Reason: the new chairman of Actors Guild of Nigeria (FCT, Abuja chapter), Mr. Onwurah Ifeanyi Agility, says he is set to break the monopoly and ensure that members of the Guild in Abuja also dominate the screens.
Already, plans are on to start auditing next week to pave way for the shooting of four movies in the next six months.
He spoke with Saturday PUNCH in Abuja during the inauguration of his executive to pilot the affairs of the AGN in FCT for the next two years.
Other members of the Exco inaugurated with him are Prince Alvin Ahmed (Vice Chairman); Nita Byack Osahon-George (Secretary); Adebola Ogunsakin (Deputy General Secretary); Kasar Moses Teryima (Assistant Secretary); Y.S Johnson (Financial Secretary); Glory OlyFranks (Teeasurer);  Oluwafemi Iwajomo (Chief Whip) and Nelly Franca Joseph (PRO).
Agility said, “Before the end of the last administration, we wanted to start in-house production. This was because we have found out that it is only Lagos faces that you see on the TV and video screens. So we have already started partnering people that have equipment and directors to start producing movies on our own.
“That is already in place and as we are being sworn in today, we are starting our first audition very soon. All things being equal, we are going to shoot four movies that will come from Abuja chapter of AGN in the next six months and that is a good way to start.
“I will not disappoint the people who elected me. About two years ago, we started the unification of members of the Guild. Before I took over, the Guild was actually in crisis. And when I took over in my first tenure, I started reunification and now that I am back, I believe they will still come back.
“With the support that they gave me, I will try as much as possible not to fail them because we have something on ground that is going to take off soon. I know that it is going to benefit members of AGN in FCT.”
The inauguration was witnessed by AGN National President, Ms. Ibinabo Fiberesima, who was represented by the National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mr. Ibi Andrew Iorundu; the Sole Administrator who organised the election, Sidney Diala; Akwa Ibom State Treasurer of AGN, Ms. Pamsilver Sikpo; seasoned actor, Bruno Iwuoha; and Ghanaian-born actor, Mr. Emmanuel France.
The Abuja chapter of AGN had been enmeshed in controversy which was said to have arisen after the election held on December 8 that produced Agility.
But his executive was not inaugurated.
Thereafter, an interim administration headed by Sidney Diala was set up to midwife a new electoral process.
Agility said, “The controversy started immediately after our election and not during my last tenure. Some godfathers wanted to plant their cronies but the people chose to return me as their chairman and that was how the controversy started.”
